CURTIS COMMUNITY SCHOOL HUB Welcome to the Curtis High School Community School Hub!
Everyone knows us as “Room 133”, which is where you’ll find us when you visit the school. Room 133 offers a range of services for students and parents. We have tutoring, after-school clubs, college coaches, counseling, weekly grocery shopping, English language and fitness classes for parents, and much more!
Tom Hepworth from Children’s Aid and Cheryl Marks from United Community Schools/UFT are the Community School Directors who help keep the hub running. There is a calendar of all events, and we send out a weekly newsletter with updates on all our programs. If there is something you need that you don’t see listed, or if you’d like to share an idea, please reach out to us. We’d love to hear from you!

Muslim Student Association (MSA)
The purpose of this club is to not only help students further their knowledge about Islam but to eliminate any misconception about the religion.

Also, it is an opportunity to create a community for the youth to voice their opinions, struggles, or seek solutions for any hardships they may be facing. Activities include lectures, celebrations, competitions, trips and more. Students who are non-Muslim but still want to learn about Islam are also welcome to join!
Pathways to Warriors
Pathways to Warriors is an after-school freshmen leadership club where students grow in their abilities through planning and executing community and school service events.

The purpose of the club is to:
- Support your child as they progress and adjust to their new high school learning environment
- Help them to identify their interests and passions
- Assist them in setting both academic and personal goals and to help them find and engage with the tools and resources they will need to accomplish those goals
- Explore and participate in community service projects that are meaningful
- Become part of a fun, safe, comfortable, and supportive group here at Curtis
- Help them to secure a summer job or internship through the Children’s Aid summer programs
- Become a leader within the school community
Photography Club
As the saying goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words”. The Curtis Photography Club aims to capture the magic of photographs by allowing students the space to evaluate and explore not only relationships with themselves, but their relationship with the world around them

Using creative expression, and storytelling elements students will learn to speak their experiences through photographs, and communicate what’s going on inside their heads using images, instead of words. Students will be encouraged to photograph, and occasionally write about their own relationships with themselves, others and the society we live in today.
Participants will learn how to confidently take and edit documentary portrait photographs, as well as learn how impactful photography can be in terms of social justice.
Pride Club
Curtis Pride Club is a Gender and Sexuality alliance open to all students attending Curtis High School

Sophomore Leaders Club
Sophomore Leaders Club is an after-school leadership club where students grow in their abilities through planning and executing community and school service events, as well as college and career exploration.

Speak First
A club where Arabic speakers support one another in practicing to read, write and speak English. Facilitator Ahmed Shareef leads students in reading stories and asking and answering questions in both written and spoken responses.

YMI Mentoring
The New York State Mentoring program is a unique one-on-one mentoring program that has been implemented in New York schools since 1984.

Mentor volunteers who enjoy working with youth come from local companies, schools, religious institutions or other civic organizations in the community. These volunteers are vetted through the NYS program and will be connected to students through mutual interests.
